Clayton County Eagles vs. the Houston County Sharks at 3 PM; All Tournament Team Honored 

Atlanta, March 5, 2024 The American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs (AAASP) and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) will host the 2024 AAASP/GHSA Dr. Ralph Swearngin State Wheelchair Basketball Championship Varsity Game Saturday, March 9th at the Macon Coliseum at 3 PM, as part of the state championship slate that day. The Wheelchair Basketball Championship will feature the final two Varsity Wheelchair Basketball teams – the Clayton County Eagles vs. the Houston County Sharks– from across the state, as the American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs continues its 27th season. This year’s Championship trophy will be presented by the State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Woods; and second place trophy will be presented by the AAASP Executive Director Tommie Storms. 

Students representing over 40 varying physical disability groups competed this year. The top four (4) teams in the JV and Varsity divisions competed the last weekend for qualification. The Junior Varisty Championship Game was held Saturday, March 2, 2024, between the Houston Jr. Sharks and the Peach County Rolling Trojans. This was Peach County’s first appearance in a JV Title Game. The Houston County Junior Sharks beat the Peach County Rolling Trojans (24-18) to earn the Junior Varsity State Title. The Varsity Semifinals were held this past weekend; the Clayton Eagles defeated the West Georgia Wolverines (26-21) to make it to the Varsity Finals; Houston Sharks beat out the DeKalb Silver Streaks (48-28) to earn their spot. 

AAASP teams from the following school districts, in a dual governing alliance with GHSA, participated in wheelchair basketball this year. In the varsity division, they were: the Clayton Eagles, the DeKalb Silver Streaks, the Houston County Sharks, and the West Georgia Wolverines. In the junior varsity division, they were: the Atlanta Wolfpack, the Houston Jr. Sharks, the Gwinnett Heat, the Georgia Storm, the Peach County Rolling Trojans and the Muscogee Lions. The American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs named a 2023-2024 Junior Varsity and a 2023-2024 Varsity All-Tournament Team. Congratulations to this year’s honorees:
