AAASP is proud to honor Peach County Rolling Trojans’ Coach Walter Johnson for his outstanding work this year.
In December, Coach Johnson was named the 2023-2024 GHSA/NFHS Coach of the Year for Adapted Sports. Coach Johnson and other winners were recognized at a pregame presentation prior to the GHSA 4A State Championship football game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Last week, the 2023–2024 AAASP Coach of the Year was also named Coach of the Year for Section 3 of the US, by the NFHS Coaches Association, which covers the states of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee!
A former AAASP student athlete himself, playing for the Houston County Sharks, Walter went on to play wheelchair basketball on scholarship for 5 years at Southwest Minnesota State University. He was named First Team All-American while there. He also led the team in 3-point percentage. He now teaches at Byron Elementary School, and is the Head Coach of the Peach County Rolling Trojans. Congratulations to Coach Walter Johnson!
