Atlanta, February 24, 2016– The American Association of Adapted Sports Programs, Inc. (AAASP) to host the 19th Annual Interscholastic Wheelchair Basketball State Championship Tournament in Georgia starting this weekend, February 27th, and concluding March 4, 2016 with the finals in Macon. The Tournament will be held in conjunction with the Georgia High School Association’s State Tournament at the Macon Coliseum, in Macon, Georgia. The following teams from both the Varsity and Junior Varsity levels across the state will begin competition this weekend to vie for the title of state champion: (Varsity) the Houston County Sharks, Atlanta Wolfpack, Gwinnett County Heat, and (Junior Varsity) West Georgia Wolverines, Henry County Hurricanes, Houston County Sharks Jrs., and the DeKalb Silver Streaks.
AAASP and GHSA have a rich history in the area of athletic programs for students with disabilities and have been
honored nationally for their partnership. GHSA formed the nation’s first dual governing alliance with the American
Association of Adapted Sports Programs, Inc. (AAASP), in 2001, to pioneer efforts in school athletic programs for
students with physical disabilities. Through this alliance, GHSA recognizes AAASP as the governing and sanctioning body for adapted sports programs for Georgia’s schools. Adapted Sports will celebrate its’ 20th Anniversary this Summer.
