The American Association of AdaptED Sports Programs, Inc. (AAASP), through a special grant from State of Georgia Appropriations Committee and the Georgia Department of Education, is offering several inception grants to help school districts in Georgia start adapted sports teams.
Your school district may apply for an all-inclusive grant covering equipment and training to offset the start-up costs of running an interscholastic wheelchair sports program!
The AAASP “Get In The Game” Grant is designed to empower Georgia school districts and their partners by supporting those who demonstrate a strong desire and commitment to establishing an AdaptED Sports program.AAASP, in partnership with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), provides a standardized framework for interscholastic adapted sports across Georgia. These programs offer students in elementary, middle, and high school with physical or sensory impairments the opportunity to participate in competitive athletics.
AAASP athletes, who are typically not eligible for Special Olympics, benefit physically, socially, emotionally, and academically from their involvement. Membership is open to all Georgia school districts, which may form teams independently or in collaboration with other schools or community organizations. Sports include wheelchair handball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair football, and track and field.
AAASP collaborates with school systems and agencies to establish a sustainable infrastructure for adapted team athletics. Participation in sports promotes academic success while building confidence, collaboration and life skills.
