AAASP: Tell us a little about yourself: Where did you grow up, go to school, college? How long have you been teaching, etc?
Coach Kristen Harter: I grew up in Warner Robins, GA (I moved here from Florida in 5th grade) and graduated from Warner Robins High. This is my 8th year working in the school system.
AAASP: When were you first introduced to AdaptED Sports?
KH: Last school year (23-24). Christy Jones brought in equipment for the students to try during PE class. I thought it was really interesting and seemed like a fun way to get all students involved in a sport/activity.
AAASP: Why did you get involved with AAASP?
KH: My son qualified for the team and tried it out to see if he would be interested. Once he went to the first practice, he was hooked and so was I. It was a no-brainer when I was asked if I wanted to get involved and help coach!
AAASP: Which adapted sports do you coach?
KH: I have coached 3 sports; handball, basketball and football. My personal favorite is definitely basketball.
AAASP: Tell us about you off the court—we would love to hear more—your family, your outside activities, your accomplishments, hobbies, etc.!
KH: I have been married for 18 years and we have 3 children (Jordan 16, Jace 15 & Lillian 10). We are always busy with their sports and activities, but when I have free time, I like to read and bake.
AAASP: What did you learn through playing sports? (Any takeaway lessons that you will share with athletes?)
KH: Everyone wants to win, there is no doubt about that. Show up to every practice like you show up to every game and do your best. There is always something to learn even when you think you have the game all figured out.
AAASP: Any advice you’d like to share with AAASP athletes?
KH: You are stronger than you think! It is no easy task to keep your chair and the ball heading down the court without slowing down. Keep having fun and prove to yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to.
AAASP: Goals for the future?
KH: I would love to stick with the Trojans for as long as they will have me. We have a few more state championships to win! The Peach County Rolling Trojans are just getting started, get ready to see a lot more action from us!!
