During
my
40
years
of
work
in
the
field
of
special
education
I
have
served
as
a
special
education
teacher,
Principal
of
a
special
education
center,
Special
Education
Director
and
as
the
Executive
Director
of
Support
Services
in
a
local
school
district.
As
the
Executive
Director,
I
had
the
opportunity
to
work
with
individuals
providing
special
education
services,
as
well
as,
social
work,
health
care,
psychological,
counseling
and
prevention
and
intervention.
Additionally,
working
with
students
in
the
English
as
a
Second
Language
program
helped
me
understand
the
diversity
in
our
school
community.
I
have
also
served
in
leadership
roles
in
professional
organizations
including
Georgia
Association
of
Special
Education
Administrators
and
the
Council
for
Exceptional
Children.
At
this
time,
I
serve
on
the
National
Board
of
State
Special
Education
Directors,
the
State
Rehabilitation
Council,
the
Interdisciplinary
Director’s
Team
and
the
Advisory
Board
of
the
Center
for
Leadership
in
Disability.
In
my
current
role
as
the
Director
of
Special
Education
Services
and
Supports
at
the
Georgia
Department
of
Education,
I
have
the
opportunity
to
support
the
programs
for
students
with
disabilities
throughout
the
State.
Throughout
my
career
I
have
worked
to
ensure
students
with
disabilities
have
equitable
opportunities
to
obtain
educational
services
and
supports
leading
to
productive
adult
independence.
